I received my new camera this morning – a Fuji Finepix S2000HD.
Main criteria for choosing this model was that it has a 15x optical zoom (looking for 10x minimum), and was available at Incredible Connection, Gaborone, Botswana. I had been waiting for a similar camera to come on special at Game in Francistown, but it never happened.
First impressions are good – quite intuitive to set the time, date and preferred resolution.
The only problem was installing the batteries: first I couldn’t open the battery cover (latch and slide, rather than just a latch or a slide), then it was fiddly to slide the cover back on, needing some effort to compress the battery terminals to get the cover to slide back.
When I’ve taken some pictures I’ll add some more information – and links to the pictures.
Note that these images were taken at 2048×1536, but since bandwidth is short I only uploaded them to Picasa at 1024×768. Should give you an idea of how the camera deals with Botswana lighting conditions.
If I can get time, and some nice pictures, I will upload full-res images.
