livery and found they belong to a railway service company, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.africanrail.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">African Rail and Traction Services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Couple of weeks later, heading back to Gaborone after Easter and we found the same train heading south from Mahalapye.&nbsp; Traction Services passing through Botswana with grain wagons.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Some more research and I was able to establish that the wagons belong to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.transnet.net\/Divisions\/FreightRail.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Transnet freight rail<\/a>, and grain is one of the commodities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spoornet.co.za\/Website\/grain.html\" target=\"_blank\">they transport<\/a> throughout southern Africa.<\/p>\n<p>What I&#8217;m not sure about is why the train was being hauled by hired locomotives, I&#8217;ve never seen non-Botswana Railways locomotives on the rails here, so I assume they are hired to substitute for BR locomotives damaged in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.botswanayouth.com\/br-passenger-train-accident\/\" target=\"_blank\">recent<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themidweeksun.co.bw\/news\/article.php?article=684\" target=\"_blank\">train<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africametro.com\/business\/botswana-railways-ceo-dominic-ntwaagae-axed-after-train-derailment\" target=\"_blank\">crashes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the articles above suggests that goods transit Botswana en-route to Zimbabwe, and presumably other rail-connected countries to the north.&nbsp; They were apparently disposed of under strict conditions in order that they not fall into the hands of Queensland Railways&#8217; competitors.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m also fairly sure they were cranking a bit faster than their rated 80km\/h.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wikipedia pages for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Queensland_Railways_2600_class\" target=\"_blank\">Queensland Railways class 2600<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Thread concerning the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsoftherail.com\/forum\/viewtopic.php?t=9420\" target=\"_blank\">disposal of a selection of Queensland Railways locomotives<\/a>, including 2600 class.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/queenslandgreattrains\/Home\/historical-diesel-locos\/2600-class\" target=\"_blank\">Queensland enthusiasts&#8217; site<\/a> showing <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/queenslandgreattrains\/_\/rsrc\/1338691380236\/Home\/historical-diesel-locos\/2600-class\/560765_10151146487511521_640486520_13118364_2047632340_n.jpg?height=300&amp;width=400\" target=\"_blank\">2609 off the rails<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/site\/queenslandgreattrains\/_\/rsrc\/1338691380235\/Home\/historical-diesel-locos\/2600-class\/182350_10151146471101521_862551342_n.jpg?height=300&amp;width=400\" target=\"_blank\">travelling by road<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.qrig.org\/motive-power\/locomotives\/diesel\/qrnational\/goninange-2600-class\" target=\"_blank\">Another enthusiasts&#8217;
